Directorate of Communication at New Heys School

The English department consists of six full time teachers and two English / Drama teachers. Each pupil attends four lessons of English a week and receives homework bi-weekly. During the course of their education pupils will normally obtain two GCSE grades in English Language and English Literature.
The English Department teaches to the AQA Specification ‘A’ examination in both English Language and Literature. Successful pupils are encouraged to stay on in the Sixth Form where the department offers AS / A Level English Literature.
English Language and Literature results are very good, above the school average and in line with 25% of the top schools, nationally. Most pupils leave school with value added scores which provides them with the opportunity to continue on to higher education should they then wish to do so.
All classrooms have access to a wide variety of ICT equipment, including interactive whiteboard and fully equipped computer suite for use exclusively within the department.
English plays a pivotal role in all aspects of the school curriculum and is an essential qualification which is expected by all employers. It is often needed as a base entry requirement to study in further or higher education.
