Health and Social Care
GCSE Health and Social Care
- This course has three units, 2 assessed by coursework and one by examination.
- Students look at various aspects of health and social care from jobs to plans to improve a person’s health and aspects of development.
- Students also get the chance to attend conferences and meet health professionals such as midwives, district nurses and early years workers and watch informative but comical plays on various health issues from teenage pregnancy to breast cancer awareness.
BTEC First Certificate in Child Care Learning and Development
- This is a new qualification that is worth 2 GCSEs at grades A*-C.
- Students look at various aspects of caring for and educating children in early years settings.
- Students complete 3 units and do 60 hours work experience in a private nursery or primary school setting.
BTEC First Diploma in Child Care Learning and Development
- This course runs over one year and students cover 6 units looking at various aspects of caring for and educating children in early years settings.
- This is a practical and enjoyable course with the completion of 200 hours in a nursery setting.
- Students have the chance to gain first aid skills and take part in conferences.
- Students who successfully complete this course gain a qualification as a nursery assistant and often choose to go on to further study.
BTEC National Certificate in Child Care Learning and Development
- This course is run over 2 years and students learn how to care for and educate children in early year’s settings.
- Students complete 800 hours work placement during the course.
- Students who successfully complete the course are qualified nursery nurses.
A Level Health and Social Care – Single or Double Award
- Students will study 3 or 6 units in their first year and the same in their second depending on whether they are doing single or double award.
- Students carry out research assignments on interesting subjects such as Complementary Therapies, Common Diseases & Disorders, The Role of Exercise in Maintaining Health.
- Students also have the chance to attend conferences and visit various health settings linked to their course.
A level Psychology
- Students cover 3 units in the first year and 3 in the second. They are assessed by a mixture of exams and research projects.
- Students look at various aspects of psychology such as its basis and foundations, the biological approaches and how people develop attitudes.
- Students carry out their own experiments in different aspects of psychology.
- The qualification also carries UCAS points and many students go on to university.
