History at New Heys
History is taught in Years 8 to 13 at New Heys. There are two full time staff as well as two members of the Senior Management team combining to teach the A Level Course. The subject is taught in two rooms with one being a multimedia room with a bank of 8 computers.
Topics covered are as follows:
Year 8
A What is History Module ? containing a variety of skills needed to work within the subject – chronology, primary and secondary evidence and an understanding of bias.
Medieval Realms
Making of the UK 1500-1750

Year 9
Black Peoples of America
Britain 1750-1900
The Twentieth Century
GCSE
OCR Modern World GCSE with Germany as the Depth Study. The Western Front and The USA in the 1920s are used as Coursework topics
A and AS
AQA Modern British and European History is studied in Years 12 and 13
Currently the Department is involved with a internet project involving Year 9 students with regards to the Slave Trade and Sierra Leone. Other events taking place this year are the annual Geography/History visit to London which takes in the Imperial War Museum and the Houses of Parliament.
