The departments consists of 9 members of staff, with five classrooms on the first floor of the new building and one classroom on the second floor along with a half suite of computers. Three of the maths classrooms have interactive whiteboards.

KS3
All pupils in Key Stage 3 follow the National Curriculum for Mathematics. Year groups are split into two halves and setted based on the NFER maths test that is sat early in year7. Pupils are assessed regularly throughout the year and their target grades are discussed with regard to improvement. Setting and assessment continues into years 8 and 9 these help determine a pupil’s level of entry for the Key Stage 3 examinations. All Key Stage 3 pupils receive 3 hours of Maths lessons each week.
KS4 GCSE (OCR Modular)
All pupils follow the OCR modular GCSE course which means that modular examinations take place in year 10 and year 11 with a terminal paper at the end of year 11. Pupils are reset at the start of year 10, according to their Key Stage 3 results, to ensure they are taught at the correct level and pace. All Key Stage 4 pupils receive 3 hours of Maths lessons each week.
Pupils are required to complete two pieces of coursework. The first piece of coursework involves Using and Applying Mathematics and is to be completed during spring term of year 10. The second piece is a Data Handling project and is to be completed during the autumn term of year 11.
A Level (EDEXCEL)
Pupils studying for A level Maths cover the following 6 unit; Pure Math C1,C2,C3,C4 Mechanics M1 and Statistics S1. The A Level course builds on the topics covered in the higher level GCSE. Pupils wishing to study A level Maths are required to have obtained at least a grade B at GCSE. Pupils studying A level Maths receive 5 hours lessons each week and are expected to study a similar amount of time independently.
