Religious Studies : Philosophy and Ethics

All students in Year 10 and Year 11 follow the OCR GCSE (short course). However, now pupils have the opportunity to study the same modules in more depth in a full GCSE course.

  • The Nature of God- What do Christians believe about God?
  • The Nature of Belief-How Christians show their belief through worship, music and art.
  • Religion and Science-Creation v. Evolution, Environmental issues.
  • Death and the Afterlife-Christian beliefs about the soul, heaven and hell.
  • Good and Evil-God and the Devil, how can we tell right from wrong?
  • Religion and Human Relationships- Marriage, Divorce, Family, Contraception.
  • Religion and Medical Ethics-Abortion, Fertility Treatment, Euthanasia, Suicide and Animal Research.
  • Religion and Equality-Racism, Gender issues, .Attitudes towards world religions.
  • Religion, Poverty and Wealth-Concern for the poor, Giving to charity, the right use of money.
  • Religion, Peace and Justice-War ,Pacifism, Crime and punishment, Social injustice.

Students are encouraged to think deeply about these issues from their own, and a Christian perspective. This course is also offered for Muslim and Hindu students from their own religious perspective.
