Our City Our Future

Four Year 9 students represented New Heys at the Our City Our Future – The challenge for Liverpool breakfast event which took place on 4th December.

Despite the city being transformed with £3 billion worth of investment, Liverpool still faces many challenges. The event was held to find a way to take Liverpool forward at a faster, more powerful pace. Presentations were given by Councillor Warren Bradley, Liverpool City Council, City Council Chief Executive Colin Hilton, Sarah Tasker from Liverpool Science Park and Michelle Charters from NOVAS.

The students, Simon Baker, Rachel Bird, Jordan Dean and Helen Lally had the opportunity to network with business people from both the private and public sectors. This they did with confidence and maturity and Jordan even successfully arranged his work experience placement for next year with a local architecture firm. Well done Jordan.

The ambition for Liverpool is to:

  • Get more people into self-employment
  • Get more local people into the new jobs created
  • Improve GCSE results beyond the England average

Each department in the council will take on one local apprentice and schools are being asked to deliver practical training in the workplace.

With our Enterprise Academy and portfolio of vocational courses available, New Heys is well placed to help Liverpool meet it’s goals.

‘Liverpool’s turnaround has been remarkable, brought about by a successful partnership between the public and private sector. But we need to do more. We need to deliver faster and better, and set our ambitions high. Only by working together will we achieve the great success we all want for our city.’  - Councillor Warren Bradley
