New Heys caters for students in the 11-19 age range and offers a broad, relevant and meaningful education for each student regardless of their ability, aptitudes and background. In particular we take a great deal of pride in what we offer our young people in helping them reach their potential and aspirations.
Academic attainment lays the all-important foundations from which future success grows. Underpinning this is the emphasis the school places on developing in all students the right attitudes and values required by society and the world of work. New Heys provides this in abundance through its Citizenship and Personal, Social and Health Education (PSHE) programmes; the Young Managers programme in Year 9; Work Experience in Year 10; Mock Interviews in Year 11; Young Enterprise teams in the 6th form and job opportunities through our strong partnerships with local businesses amongst which are the Marriott Master Chef and Marriott Academy programmes that have already given our students employment.
Students here have ample opportunity to find what I call ‘Pathways to Success’ by opting for one or more of the ‘routes’ or ‘pathways’ on offer tailored to meet their needs, skills, aptitudes and aspirations. Young people are growing up in an increasingly complex, challenging yet exciting world, where those who have learned to be flexible, can work in teams, face challenges and have the skills to solve them and demonstrate creativity, enterprise and real entrepreneurial skills will be in heavy demand in the workplace.
New Heys offers young people these opportunities and more. We know this because our local Business Leaders, who work closely with us, tell us so. Furthermore they advise us on how to develop and improve our curriculum to get the very best from our students. This strong collaborative work strengthens and enhances the life chances of our young people. We know this too as the students tell us and feedback their views to assist us refine what is on offer.
‘New Heys - New Horizons’ has been our school ‘motto’ for a number of years now. It reflects our vision, our mission, and captures that real sense of excitement in learning that allows all of us to develop and be better at what we do. I believe this to be a powerful message for students, staff, parents and governors alike.
I am extremely proud to be headteacher of such a successful and forward thinking school and can assure you of my commitment and that of my team in ensuring New Heys continues to provide a successful, relevant all-round education for all of its students.
I hope you enjoy reading and learning more about our work, made possible because of a talented and hard working staff; motivated student body; supportive parents and a committed governing body all of whom deserve the highest praise.
