New Heys is proud of its reputation as a caring school with a real concern for every individual girl and boy. The school is therefore organised on a tutor based system with both Form Tutors and Heads of Year continuing with their groups from year 7 to year 11.
Form Groups
Form groups are able to work in a family type atmosphere of mutual trust and co-operation. The Form Tutor is able to get to know a small group of students, providing an all-important bedrock of stability for the children as they progress through New Heys. Form Tutors also teach the Personal, Social and Health Education programme in addition to 2 registrations and a 15-minute tutorial each day. The year team is led by a Head of Year and between them they provide support for all students and monitor their progress as learners. Parents should contact their child’s Form Tutor if they are at all concerned or require information, and we encourage parents to come into school if possible.

Home School Partnership
The Home School Partnership is a most prized part of our ethos, for the importance of good relations between the school and the student’s home cannot be emphasised too strongly, as the child will develop so much more fully if both are working together. You are therefore warmly invited to come to school as often as you can. A good many opportunities are offered during the year. In addition you are welcome to come, by appointment, to see members of the teaching staff. In particular you are urged to get to know your child’s Form Tutor and Head of Year as well as you can.
You will receive regular written reports on your child’s development, and have the chance to discuss progress with members of the staff as often as possible. You can help us by sharing your knowledge of your child with us so that we can know her/him more fully and thus teach her/him more effectively. Prospective parents are most welcome at New Heys and are encouraged to make an appointment to visit the school at their convenience.
The Parent Teacher Association
The Parent-Teacher Association exists to foster good relations between school and home. It has an active committee which meets regularly to plan future activities, raise funds and discuss matters of concern. They organise many enjoyable social events and are always keen to welcome any parents or friends of the school.
Contact During School Hours
All parents will be asked to indicate how they can be contacted during school hours in the event of sickness or injury. Only limited medical attention can be given in school and if a student is too ill to stay, you will be contacted as soon as possible. Obviously in the event of accidents, appropriate action will be taken and you will be notified immediately.
Behaviour for Learning
At New Heys pastoral care and behaviour for learning means ensuring that all students have the opportunity to realise their potential and their ambitions. We aim to provide a well ordered and supportive environment where students feel valued and learning can take place. At the same time we set out to stimulate an individual’s desire to learn and challenge them to achieve the very best they can in all that they do - we are seldom disappointed.
We have adopted a ‘Behaviour For Learning’ policy, the emphasis of which is to encourage the students to behave well and to value praise and reward. Students are able to gain rewards for positive behaviour. We base our statement around the philosophy of Creating A Better Learning Environment (C.A.B.L.E.).
