Why Choose New Heys?

It is vital that students entering New Heys are provided with the appropriate level of work to help them achieve their very best. Information is provided from the primary schools to enable us to do this.

The close relationship that New Heys has with its partner primary schools is a feature of our work throughout the year, and is not limited to the period of transition when students move from primary to secondary education. We believe that our primary schools have begun a task of successfully educating children that we continue through into secondary education

The students are not divided into fixed teaching groups - rather, the nature of the subject determines the best strategy for classroom practice. Many students are better at one subject than another; many more improve rapidly once they have settled down and start making the most of the opportunities a large secondary school provides. The abiding principle is that all students have individual learning needs and we believe that they have a right to appropriate work at the correct pace.

However, we offer each student every opportunity to reach their full potential and we all support them in this challenge. The school has a policy to enter all students for external examimations. Standards in primary education in Liverpool are improving significantly, particularly at Key Stage 2. We at New Heys, pay tribute to the primary teaching force that is achieving this dramatic change. We too have a clear vision for further raising the standards at Key Stage 3, 4 and 5 and we aim to continue this upward trend in results. Our success as a Business and Enterprise College has made education for all our students more challenging, demanding, rigorous and inspiring across the whole curriculum.

There has been increased attention on those aspects of education that are concerned with your son/daughter preparing for the roles that they will fill in society. We are here to ensure this preparation is thorough.

As a school we:

Give our students an opportunity to become creative, innovative, enterprising and capable of leadership to equip them for their future lives as employees and citizens

Provide a curriculum that promotes self-esteem and emotional well being. This will help your son/ daughter to form and maintain satisfying relationships at home, school, work and in the community

Work with your son/daughter to prepare for the next steps in training, education and employment ensuring they make informed choices

Equip your son/ daughter with all the skills necessary to move forward in life.

At all key stages our students learn, practise, develop and refine a wide range of skills in their work across the curriculum. Some of these skills are subject specific (painting in Art and Design), some are common to several subjects (e.g. enquiry skills in Science, Geography and History). Some skills are universal, e.g. skills of communication, improving all areas of learning and performance. These skills are also embedded in the subjects of the National Curriculum and are essential to effective learning. In essence New Heys strives to seek out and develop your son/daughter’s individual talents.
