Working Together at New Heys

At New Heys we believe that all students should have access to a curriculum suited to their needs and abilities. We are committed to providing a high quality education to all students whatever their need.

The many staff working in the area of learning support work alongside the staff and students in mainstream classes to help develop independence, self-respect and self-esteem, as well as using a variety of teaching strategies to help students to become more effective learners.

Learning Mentors

In addition we have a team of learning mentors who offer additional support and guidance to our students. They also work with students in the classroom but on occasions will work with small groups on project work and self-analysis.

Their work often extends beyond the school and into the wider community. This work is invaluable in supporting the students, linking with parents and other outside agencies. We also offer our students the full use of the Student Support Centre for counselling help and advice, support with their work, additional careers advice and placements plus any other help they require.

Bilingual Learning Support

New Heys provides a programme of support teaching for those students whose first language is not English. This is largely delivered in the classroom with a teaching assistant working to assist the students & subject teacher.

We believe that if students are to progress and reach their full potential there must be as little disruption as possible to their participation in the National Curriculum.
